Mobility Solution Experience
InterDev developed a leading edge mobility platform for one of Australia’s
leading transport and logistics providers. The solution has allowed our
client to extend these mobility services to more than half a dozen business
units within the group. These independent business units can leverage
off the group’s investment, in order to achieve:
- real time tracking of freight movements
- signature capture – available in real time to customers over
the web
- total fleet visibility
- Job booking and pickup whilst ‘on the road’
- reduced time to market for new mobile applications
The initial problem
Our client required a solution that allowed mobile data applications to
seamlessly integrate with multiple business systems. Previous mobility
offerings deployed to the group were limited due to the following:
- batch based system
- proprietary development by third party vendors, limiting the opportunity
to extend or change
- required to ‘reinvent the wheel’ each time a mobile solution
was required
- not utilising internal resources to develop new mobile initiatives
- integration with internal systems required significant rework
A corporate mobility standard was needed to revolutionise the way business
had been traditionally performed.
Solving the problem
Since the client was intending to use this system as a common mobility
platform across multiple business units; delivering a reliable, efficient,
and robust solution was paramount. Using standard technologies we were
able to develop a distributed architecture which allowed for any business
application to ‘plug into’ the core mobile infrastructure.
In addition, the system provides:
- interface capabilities into multiple business systems
- full visibility of connected devices
- automatic software deployment
- support for multiple hardware types
- web based management and administration capabilities
This was all achieved whilst conforming to the corporate enterprise architecture
and ensuring adherence to corporate security policies.
